Brian Turner is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 116, which encompasses western Buncombe County. Born and raised in Asheville, Turner earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University in 1996 and an MBA from Wake Forest University in 2010. His diverse professional background includes roles as a television producer for MTV, an executive at his family's manufacturing company, and Assistant Vice Chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
Turner was first elected to the North Carolina House in 2014, defeating incumbent Tim Moffitt. He served four consecutive terms from 2015 to 2023, focusing on supporting public education, protecting the state's natural resources, and fostering local economic growth. In 2023, following redistricting, Turner announced his candidacy for the newly drawn District 116 and was re-elected in 2024 without opposition.
Throughout his legislative career, Turner has been recognized for his bipartisan approach and effectiveness. He played a key role in establishing Pisgah View State Park, advocated for raising the minimum marriage age in North Carolina, and supported survivors of child sexual assault in seeking justice. Turner has also been honored by the NC League of Conservation Voters for his environmental work and received the Jobs Champion recognition from the NC Chamber of Commerce.
