Rep. Carolyn G. Logan has been serving as the Democratic representative for North Carolina's House District 101, encompassing parts of Mecklenburg County, since January 2019. Logan has a distinguished career in law enforcement and public service. In 1977, Logan became the first Black female police officer in Asheville, North Carolina. She further broke barriers in 1984 by becoming the first Black female trooper in the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, where she served until her retirement in 2007.
After retiring from law enforcement, Logan pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Belmont Abbey College. She also completed the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University and became a certified Basic Law Enforcement Instructor. Her dedication to public service led her to the North Carolina General Assembly, where she focuses on issues such as public safety, veterans' affairs, and state personnel matters. Logan serves on several key committees, including Appropriations, Homeland Security, Military and Veterans Affairs, and State Personnel.
Throughout her career, Logan has been recognized for her trailblazing contributions, receiving honors such as the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from the State of North Carolina, the Trailblazer Award from the Black Women's Caucus, and the Pioneer Award from the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association. She remains an active member of her community, participating in organizations like the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and the Charlotte Women's March. As a legislator, Logan continues to advocate for her constituents, drawing upon her extensive experience in law enforcement and community engagement.
