Charles Smith is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 44 in Cumberland County since January 2023. Born and raised in Fayetteville, he earned his undergraduate degree from Emory & Henry College, where he pursued a childhood dream of playing college basketball, and later obtained his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Smith's professional background includes serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Cumberland County, primarily handling domestic violence and child abuse cases, and currently practicing as an attorney with Anderson, Johnson, Lawrence & Butler, LLP.

In the legislature, Smith has been appointed to several committees, including Appropriations, Families, Children, and Aging Policy, Military and Veterans Affairs, State Government, and Wildlife Resources. He resides in Fayetteville with his wife, Mary Kelly, an elementary school counselor in the Cumberland County public school system. Together, they are committed to serving their community and contributing to its continued progress.
