The NCDPHC is now accepting applications for a Press & Digital Communications Specialist to serve through the November 2026 election cycle supporting Democratic candidates across North Carolina. This role will provide communications support for multiple candidates and caucus efforts, including building relationships with candidates and key reporters, identifying and executing earned media opportunities, drafting press materials, and supporting digital messaging strategies.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who thrives in a fast-paced political environment and understands how traditional media and digital media work together to shape narratives.
This is a full-time role, remote in North Carolina or Raleigh based.

Responsibilities
- Performing daily communications functions including media monitoring; drafting press materials such as advisories, press releases, statements, talking points, and op-eds; and preparing candidates and spokespeople for media events.
- Working with paid media vendors and Caucus leadership to identify press opportunities that can support broader communications goals.
- Managing campaign media lists and developing relationships with key North Carolina reporters, editors, producers, and influencers.
- Providing recommendations on proactive earned media opportunities and implementing them accordingly.
- Identifying and executing rapid response opportunities, including pitching and interfacing directly with reporters on behalf of candidates.
- Conceptualizing, organizing, and managing press conferences, town halls, and campaign events.
- Assisting with digital messaging strategy across social media platforms, including helping draft social copy, identifying viral or trend-based opportunities, and coordinating message amplification.
- Monitoring social media trends, opposition messaging, and breaking news to inform communications strategy.
- Coordinating with campaigns, caucus staff, partner organizations, and consultants on a regular basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Communications experience required; campaign experience strongly preferred.
- Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of the media landscape, including experience pitching reporters and identifying newsworthy moments.
- High level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Technical fluency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media platforms including X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Threads.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed during busy campaign periods.
- Access to reliable transportation and a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
Strongly Preferred But Not Required
- Work experience in or familiarity with North Carolina politics and media markets.
- Experience working in a state legislature, political campaign, advocacy organization, or newsroom.
- Existing relationships with North Carolina reporters, editors, or political influencers.
- Experience creating short-form digital content, including video clips, reels, graphics, or rapid response content for social media.
- Familiarity with platforms and tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Meta Business Suite, or video editing software.
- Experience helping manage candidate or organizational social media accounts.
- Understanding of digital storytelling, online engagement strategy, and social media analytics.
Position Details & Compensation
- Full-time beginning June 2026 and ending late November 2026, including some night and weekend work as necessary.
- Compensation: $6,000 per month.
